An Introduction to the Game of Rugby Fives

"It may be said that there are things of more importance
than striking a ball against a wall.
There are things, indeed, that make more noise and do as
little good, such as making war and peace, making
speeches and answering them, making verses and blotting
them, making money and throwing it away.
But the game of fives is what no one despises who has
ever played at it. It is the finest exercise for the
body, and the best relaxation for the mind."
William Hazlitt 1810
An Introduction to the Game of Rugby Fives
There are about one thousand active Rugby Fives players in this country
- yes, it is a minority sport - but many more who "used to play at school.
I would love to play again if only I knew how to go about it". This set of
pages is taken from a booklet which has been designed to tell those people
just that. It also gives those people who already play a little, and would
like to play more, information about the regular tournaments and other events,
and tells those players (such as school leavers) who are moving around the country
where they can play in their new area. Finally, it explains the roles and aims of
The Rugby Fives Association, the sport's governing body.
